About
Manou Gallo is a West African bassist, singer and bandleader from Divo, Côte d'Ivoire, and one of the few women to make the electric bass guitar the center of her musical identity. She spent six years touring Europe with Zap Mama before striking out on her own with her group Le Djiboi, releasing her debut album Dida on the IglooMondo label in 2003. Her sound pulls from African popular music and she sings across three languages: Dida, French and English. Her 2018 album Afro Groove Queen is a highlight of her catalog, featuring collaborations with funk legend Bootsy Collins and Cameroonian saxophone icon Manu Dibango. She also produced and played bass on the Mokoomba album Rising Tide in 2011, and her most recent release, Afro Bass Fusion, came out in 2023.
