About
Mantar is a two piece sludge and black metal outfit from Hamburg, Germany, and they pull it off with no bassist in sight. Drummer Erinç Sakarya and guitarist Hanno Klänhardt built the band around the raw, heavy blueprint of acts like Melvins, Darkthrone and Motörhead, and that DNA runs through everything they do. Their 2014 debut Death by Burning put them on the map, and signing to Nuclear Blast in 2016 pushed them into a wider heavy music conversation. Since then they have kept up a steady run of records: Ode to the Flame, The Modern Art of Setting Ablaze, and a covers collection called Grungetown Hooligans II. Their most recent studio effort, Pain Is Forever and This Is the End, arrived in 2022, followed by Post Apocalyptic Depression in 2025.
