About
Marc Ducret has built one of the most distinctive voices in French avant garde jazz, wielding a guitar style that critics have described as both highly original and, at times, reminiscent of Pat Metheny. The Paris born guitarist has been a fixture in adventurous jazz circles since the mid 1980s, releasing a string of records on labels like Label Bleu, Winter and Winter, and Ayler. His long running partnership with American saxophonist Tim Berne is arguably the most celebrated thread running through his career, with the two having recorded together extensively across several decades. Ducret's own catalog stretches from the spare and probing to the genuinely epic, as with the multi volume Tower series he rolled out between 2011 and 2014. More recently he has kept busy on multiple fronts, collaborating with trombonist Samuel Blaser on a run of recordings and releasing Palm Sweat and Ici, both in 2023. He is the kind of musician other serious players seek out.
