About
Marcel Kapteijn made his name in the 80s as the voice of Ten Sharp and their worldwide hit You. After that he stopped following the obvious route and went his own way. He explored crooner material, but always sideways, never quite the standard version. His sound shifts from project to project, sometimes big and cinematic, sometimes hushed and intimate. His collaboration with jazz guitarist Jesse van Ruller is a good example, with echoes of Chet Baker in the mix. The constant is that warm, lived in voice. These days he has circled back to where his music started, leaning into americana and west coast influences. He plays with Sander Schuurman on guitar and Nico Dobber on percussion and guitar, a small and tight setup built around craft rather than spectacle.
