About

Also known as: Marcela Alejandra Bovio Garcia

Marcela Bovio is a Mexican singer, violinist and songwriter who has spent much of her career straddling symphonic metal and more delicate classical and folk sounds. Her international breakthrough came when Dutch producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen cast her as the Wife in his Ayreon concept album The Human Equation, which turned into his best selling release at the time. That collaboration led directly to Stream of Passion, the progressive metal band Bovio fronted for over a decade, writing all the lyrics on their debut Embrace the Storm and eventually stepping up as band leader and co songwriter after Lucassen stepped away. Beyond Stream of Passion, she is a member of Dutch symphonic death metal outfit MaYaN and has lent her voice as a backing vocalist to acts like Epica and The Gentle Storm. Her solo work takes a very different turn: Unprecedented pairs her songwriting with a string quartet in a classical and folk leaning direction, while the follow up Through Your Eyes moves into pop and chamber prog territory. Stream of Passion reformed in 2022 after their 2016 split, giving Bovio yet another chapter with the band that made her name outside Mexico.
