The Marcin Wasilewski Trio have been playing together since their teenage years in Poland, and that shared history seeps into every note they record. Pianist Marcin Wasilewski, bassist Slawomir Kurkiewicz and drummer Michal Miskiewicz first gained wider attention backing Polish jazz legend Tomasz Stanko before stepping out on their own. Their chemistry is the kind that can't be faked or rushed. Signed to ECM Records, the trio blend impressionistic textures with real rhythmic muscle, letting silence do as much work as sound. Albums like January drew serious praise for their patience and collective trust, and critics noted how impossible it is to imagine any one member replaced. Over the years they have also collaborated with musicians like Manu Katché and Joe Lovano, with recent releases including Arctic Riff and En attendant keeping them very much in the conversation.
