Also known as: Maridalen Trio
Named after a valley north of Oslo, Maridalen bring something genuinely fresh to the European jazz landscape. The Norwegian trio builds their sound around double bass, saxophone and trumpet, three melodic voices that complement each other both harmonically and with a percussive energy. The result is acoustic, transparent and cinematic, music that feels closer to a daydream than a concert. Nature is a clear source of inspiration, and that influence comes through in the spacious, unhurried quality of their playing. Their album Gressholmen was named best jazz album of 2024 by Mojo Magazine and best Norwegian jazz album of 2024 by the newspaper Dagsavisen. The trio has performed at numerous well known European jazz festivals. The lineup is Anders Hefre on saxophones and clarinet, Jonas Kilmork Vemøy on trumpet, and Andreas Rødland Haga on double bass.
