About
Marietta Petkova is a Bulgarian classical pianist whose recitals have built a devoted following among both audiences and critics. Her playing has been described by the Dutch newspaper Trouw as music that tells stories rather than simply sounding notes, and French publication Messager wrote that she does not merely play music but embodies it. A book about her life and artistry, titled 'Muziek is een hart dat alles weet' by writer Lex Bohlmeijer, has brought her story to a wider readership. One of her programmes, Vol de Nuit, is built around the theme of night. It brings together major works by Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Debussy and Bartók alongside lesser known pieces by Field, Glinka and Stoyanov. Bohlmeijer joins her on stage for these performances to introduce the music and hold conversations with her between pieces.
