About
Mark Fell makes electronic music that takes dance genres apart to see how they tick. Writer Dan Barrow once described it in The Wire as fragments of dance genres torn from their contexts and stripped down to their barest logic, each piece probed and rearranged until it makes provisional sense. Restrained and minimal, it's as much about the politics and ideologies of club and experimental music culture as it is about the sound itself. Based in Rotherham, Fell shares the duo Snd with Mat Steel, records as Sensate Focus, and works in various collaborations, including an album with Gábor Lázár. His solo run includes Multistability on Raster Noton and UL8 on Editions Mego in 2010, followed by Sentielle Objectif Actualité in 2012, with later releases like Intra and the more recent Psychic Resynthesis. Alongside the records, he keeps up a sound art installation practice.
