About
Stephen Marley has spent decades shaping the sound of reggae from nearly every angle: as a performer, songwriter, instrumentalist and producer. Growing up in the Melody Makers alongside his siblings, he earned the nickname Raggamuffin for being the first Marley to bring dancehall rap into the family's music. His production work is just as impressive as his performing, steering Damian Marley's career through three albums including the Grammy winning Halfway Tree and Welcome to Jamrock, and reviving Bob Marley's catalogue with Chant Down Babylon, a 1999 remix project that brought in Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes and The Roots. As a solo artist he has racked up eight Grammy wins in total. His 2011 album Revelation Pt. 1 took home Best Reggae Album, and he followed it up in 2016 with Revelation Pt. 2. On his solo records he writes, produces and plays most of the instruments himself, giving the music a distinctly personal feel that sets it apart from anything built around a committee.
