About
Marlies Claasen is a singer who leans on her expressive voice, and she's at her most memorable when the arrangements are stripped back. She's known to perform a cappella, with Stille Nacht as one example. In her seasonal shows she mixes English jazz Christmas songs with Dutch classics that audiences are invited to sing along with, and she's happy to throw in a modern standard like It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas too. She usually works with a small band, with guitarist Tom Klein and keyboardist Wil Maas alongside her, which keeps things warm and intimate rather than big and bombastic. She has played Theaterkerk Bemmel more than once and tends to close on a note of peace, with John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Happy Xmas (War Is Over).
