About
Martin String Quartet, a UK rooted ensemble, approaches the string quartet form as something worth interrogating rather than just performing. Their cellist Ori Ron is also a composer, and he places his work in dialogue with Bach, Beethoven, and Gubaidulina as a way of asking what a string quartet actually is and can be. The group met at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and has since developed a sharply defined sound palette, one built on careful attention to individual voices within the ensemble. A jury at Dutch Classical Talent praised their precision and ear for detail, and the quartet also took first prize at the Gelre Chamber Music Competition.
