About
Martini Grey occupies a distinctive corner of the Dutch jazz landscape, bringing together five musicians who each carry serious solo careers alongside their work in this band. Their music is built around original compositions that explore a kind of tension between two worlds: the quiet, rooted atmosphere of rural life in the northern provinces of the Netherlands, and the restless energy of major global cities like New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo. That contrast gives the group a broad emotional range without ever losing its jazz grounding. The lineup reads like a who's who of contemporary Dutch jazz. Saxophonist Efraïm Trujillo is an Edison Award winner with The Preacher Men. Trumpeter Suzan Veneman tours the Netherlands with her own projects and plays with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. Pianist Joost Swart has taken his trio on tour through China, bassist Jeroen Vierdag is known from the Ploctones and his work with Teus Nobel, and drummer Ancel Klooster has recorded six albums with the piano trio Klatwerk3.
