About
Born in Granollers, Spain, Marzio Scholten has established himself as one of the leading modern jazz guitarists and composers working in the Netherlands. His music sits firmly in the creative jazz space, blending modern jazz with other genres and placing improvisation at its centre. He leads the Marzio Scholten Group and Marzio Scholten Quartet, where compositions and arrangements are all his own work. His 2010 album World of Thought landed in the Dutch top 10 jazz releases of that year and picked up reviews worldwide. Two years later, Voids, Echoes and Whispers earned him runner up honours for Best International Jazz Album of 2012 from the readers of Tokyo Jazz Notes. He has performed at some of the Netherlands' most respected venues and festivals, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Bimhuis and Royal Theatre Carré, and has kept a steady output going with releases right through to Isolophilia in 2019.
