About

Also known as: Tom Straete Lagergren, Tom Stræte Lagergren

Norwegian DJ and producer Tom Stræte Lagergren, who records as Matoma, built his name on a string of tropical house remixes that quietly became massive. His rework of The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Old Thing Back" peaked at number two on the official Norwegian singles chart and charted across Scandinavia, New Zealand, and beyond, landing at number one on Hype Machine and pulling interest from labels including Big Beat Records. Enrique Iglesias' team liked what they heard and brought him in to remix "Bailando", and Ja Rule publicly praised the B.I.G. remix too. His collaboration with Becky Hill, "False Alarm", and two team ups with The Vamps, "All Night" and "Staying Up", cemented his knack for pairing tropical, house inflected production with pop vocals. "All Night" racked up 375 million Spotify streams by early 2019. Away from the studio, he coached on the Norwegian version of The Voice and co founded Masterchannel, an AI music mastering startup that won Norway's Best Creative Tech Startup in 2022.
