Best known for "Break My Stride", the infectiously upbeat 1983 single that climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, Matthew Wilder has spent decades proving he is far more than a one hit wonder. Born in Manhattan and shaped by a Greenwich Village upbringing steeped in Broadway and folk clubs, he shifted from performing to producing with real impact, helming No Doubt's breakthrough record Tragic Kingdom and working with Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, and Miley Cyrus along the way. His work for Disney's Mulan stands out as a career highlight: he co wrote the songs with lyricist David Zippel and even lent his own voice to the character Ling, earning an Academy Award nomination in the process. He has also taken his songwriting into theatre, most recently with Stiletto, a musical set in the opera world of 1730s Venice that premiered in London in 2025 at the Charing Cross Theatre.
