About
Also known as: Maximo Park
Maxïmo Park have been one of the most reliably sharp indie rock acts to come out of Newcastle upon Tyne, blending post punk energy with genuinely literate songwriting since their formation in 2000. Their debut album A Certain Trigger sold over 300,000 copies, went gold, and landed a Mercury Prize nomination, a strong opening statement for a band that started by pressing just 300 copies of a red vinyl single. Singer Paul Smith joined partly because someone spotted him dancing around in a suit singing Stevie Wonder, which says something about the band's instinct for finding the right energy. Their second album Our Earthly Pleasures, produced by Gil Norton, kept up the momentum and also went gold. Along the way, Mark Ronson picked up their single "Apply Some Pressure" for a remix, and the band covered Justin Timberlake for a BBC Radio 1 anniversary compilation. Eight studio albums deep now, including the most recent Stream of Life from 2024, they have stayed consistently restless and engaged.
