About
Also known as: MC 8, MC Eight
MC Eiht is one of the definitive voices of Compton, and pretty much everything he raps about comes straight from living there. As the de facto frontman of Compton's Most Wanted, he helped shape West Coast gangsta rap in the early 90s, with the group peaking on the 1992 album Music to Driveby. His track "Streiht Up Menace" from the Menace II Society soundtrack is widely considered his finest moment, a raw portrait of inner city life that landed harder because he was also acting in the film as the character A Wax. His solo run kept the West Coast flag flying through the mid to late 90s with We Come Strapped and Death Threatz, both credited as MC Eiht featuring Compton's Most Wanted. He also voiced Ryder in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which introduced him to a whole new audience. A 2012 appearance on Kendrick Lamar's "m.A.A.d city" reminded everyone exactly where Compton rap came from, and he has kept releasing material steadily, including albums like Which Way Iz West, Lessons, and Revolution in Progress.
