About
MellowHype was the LA hip hop duo that put Hodgy and Left Brain on the map, both as individual talents and as core members of the Odd Future collective. Left Brain handled the beats while Hodgy rode them, and together they built a sound that felt raw and off kilter in the best way. Their debut mixtape YelloWhite dropped in 2010, followed the same year by BlackenedWhite, which they gave away for free online before Fat Possum Records picked it up for a proper remastered reissue in 2011. Their second studio album Numbers arrived in 2012 and featured Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt, and Mike G. Along the way they teamed up with Domo Genesis to form MellowHigh, a trio that released its debut album in 2013 and charted on the Billboard 200. Hodgy officially called time on the MellowHype name in early 2015, framing it less as a breakup and more as a shift in direction. The two were back collaborating by 2017, contributing to Left Brain's Mind Gone Volume 1.
