About
Formed in Strängnäs in 1986, Merciless got their early fire from the speed and aggression of Kreator, Sodom, Destruction and Bathory, and they channeled that into becoming one of Sweden's longest running extreme metal acts. Their debut album The Awakening came out in 1990 on Deathlike Silence Productions, the label run by Euronymous, after a demo caught his ear. That release alone cemented their place in Swedish death and thrash metal history. The band has had their share of turbulence, including a breakup in 1994 born out of frustration with record labels, a reunion, and a long gap before their self titled fourth album landed in 2003. Their third album was recorded with producer Dan Swanö at Unisound studios, which puts them in solid company. The current lineup keeps the founding members Erik Wallin and Stefan Carlsson at the core, with vocalist Rogga and drummer turned bassist Peter Stjärnvind rounding things out.
