Method Man has one of the most distinctive voices in hip hop, a smooth but menacing drawl that made him the breakout star of Wu Tang Clan almost from the start. He was one of only two members to get a solo song on Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers), and his 1994 debut Tical hit number four on the Billboard 200 and eventually went platinum. The Grammy winning duet with Mary J. Blige, a remix of his track 'All I Need', pushed him firmly into mainstream territory without softening his edge. Beyond rapping, he has built a surprisingly deep acting career, with recurring roles in Oz, The Wire, and The Deuce, plus film appearances ranging from Belly to Garden State to Venom. As one half of the duo with Redman, he also dropped the beloved Blackout! album, a funky, loose, good time record that holds up as one of the better team up projects in 90s hip hop. His stage name, for what it is worth, comes from a 1979 martial arts film.
