Eleven musicians, one pack mentality. MEUTE is a Hamburg based techno marching band that does something genuinely strange and genuinely great: they take floor filling techno and deep house tracks by the likes of Deadmau5, Flume and Dennis Ferrer and rearrange them entirely for brass and percussion. No DJ desk, no laptop, just wind instruments replicating that hypnotic, driving pulse you'd expect from a club at 2am. The band describes what they do as "detaching electronic music from the DJ desk", and it works spectacularly well. Founded by trumpeter Thomas Burhorn in Hamburg in 2015, MEUTE broke through after a video of their rework of Âme's "Rej" went viral in early 2016. Things really exploded in 2018 when footage of an unannounced street performance in Berlin, playing their "You & Me" Flume Remix rework, clocked over 72 million YouTube views. They have since toured across Europe, North America and southern Africa, played at SXSW, appeared at WOMADelaide, and performed at venues ranging from techno clubs to the Hamburg State Opera. Their catalogue now runs to five albums, most recently Empor in 2024.
