Michael League is the kind of musician who makes everyone around him sound better. Best known as the bandleader and primary composer of Snarky Puppy, the sprawling instrumental group that blends jazz, funk, R&B and global sounds into something genuinely hard to categorize, he has picked up five Grammy Awards along the way. The band's wins include Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for both Sylva and Culcha Vulcha, and their Live at the Royal Albert Hall took the same award in 2021. Beyond Snarky Puppy, League runs the record label GroundUP Music, co founded the world and blues ensemble Bokanté, and has produced over 40 albums for artists ranging from David Crosby to Susana Baca. His 2021 solo debut So Many Me saw him play every single instrument himself, including Turkish, Moroccan and Kurdish percussion. He also curates the annual GroundUP Music Festival in Miami, pulling together a lineup that reflects just how wide his musical world really is.
