About

Michael Moore is an American jazz clarinettist and saxophonist who has called Amsterdam home since 1982, becoming a fixture in the Dutch and European improvised music scenes. He picked up the VPRO/Boy Edgar Award, the most prestigious jazz prize in the Netherlands, back in 1986, and founded his own label Ramboy Records in 1991 to keep his output documented on his own terms. His 1994 album Chicoutimi is where he really hit his stride as a composer, built around a drummerless trio with Fred Hersch and Mark Helias that drew on the spirit of Lee Konitz and Gil Evans duo recordings. Moore wears a lot of hats. He is a third of the Clusone Trio alongside cellist Ernst Reijseger and drummer Han Bennink, a group that grew from a one off festival gig into a touring band with six albums to its name. Then there is Jewels and Binoculars, a collective trio devoted entirely to Bob Dylan interpretations, and a quintet he put together in 2005 featuring some of the sharpest players in the Dutch jazz scene.
