About
Also known as: Michael Reisman, Michael Riseman
Michael Riesman has been at the center of Philip Glass's musical world since 1974, when Glass personally invited him to join his ensemble as a keyboardist. Over the decades, Riesman grew into the role of musical director and conductor, shaping nearly every major Glass project from the inside. He has conducted orchestras including the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and picked up two Grammy nominations along the way, for The Photographer and for the Kundun score. Beyond his work with the ensemble, Riesman has released piano arrangements of Glass film scores like The Hours and Dracula, plus a compilation called Philip Glass Soundtracks. His own compositional work includes Formal Abandon, a ballet written for choreographer Lucinda Childs that premiered at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Chamber Concerto, which he conducted with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. As a solo pianist he has also performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
