Houston guitarist Mike Moreno has built a reputation as one of the more versatile and in demand voices in contemporary jazz. Working squarely in the post bop tradition, he has recorded and toured with a remarkable range of players, including Joshua Redman, Terence Blanchard, Kenny Garrett, Ravi Coltrane, Robert Glasper, and Wynton Marsalis with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. That list alone tells you something about the level of trust the jazz world places in him. As a leader he has put out six albums across two labels, World Culture Music and Criss Cross Jazz. His debut Between the Lines appeared in 2007, and he has kept a steady pace since, with releases like Third Wish, First in Mind, Another Way, Lotus, and Three for Three rounding out a catalog that rewards close listening. Alongside his recording work, Moreno teaches at several institutions including the Manhattan School of Music and the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
