About
Millennium Jazz Orchestra is a Dutch big band with a flair for ambitious, large scale projects that push jazz well beyond the concert hall format. Led by composer and arranger Joan Reinders, the ensemble brings together a full brass and reed section, trumpets, trombones, saxophones, piano, bass and drums, and is clearly at home working across genres. Their project around the book Drinkbare Rivieren by Li An Phoa shows that range well: composed by Reinders with librettist Marieke Meischke, it weaves orchestral jazz with classical influences and hip hop into a theatrical piece about the relationship between rivers and humanity, complete with spoken word and prize winning nature film visuals.
