Minyeshu is an Ethiopian singer and dancer based in Eindhoven whose music sits at the crossroads of traditional Horn of Africa sounds and modern western influences. Some of her songs draw on Eskista, an Ethiopian shoulder dance rhythm, and she performs in multiple African languages beyond her native Amharic, including Sidama. Her band Chewata has been her main vehicle for that mix, with albums like Dire Dawa, Black Ink and Daa Dee mapping the evolution of her sound over the years. She has never been shy about collaboration. She has worked with Marco Borsato at a War Child benefit concert, appeared with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble at the Concertgebouw, and teamed up with musicians from the Zuco 103 Ensemble and Lefties Soul Connection for the Black Ink project. Festival stages from Sziget in Budapest to Sfinks in Antwerp have hosted her, and in 2023 she brought an eleven piece band to the North Sea Jazz Festival for what was clearly a career highlight.
