Miss Kaninna made an immediate impression when her debut single 'Blak Britney' landed on triple j rotation in 2023, a track she called 'an anti establishment anthem'. The Tasmanian born, Melbourne based artist is Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung, Kalkadoon and Yirandhali, and that identity runs right through her hip hop. She signed with Soul Has No Tempo and followed up with 'Push Up', a song about the leap from Tasmania to Melbourne, before dropping her self titled debut EP Kaninna in September 2024. The ARIA nomination that came with it made history: she became the first independent Aboriginal woman ever nominated for a debut single at the awards. Since then she has kept the momentum going. She toured with Amyl and the Sniffers in 2025 and kicked off 2026 with a Times Square billboard as part of Amazon Music's Artists to Watch. Her debut mixtape Blackprint is on the way, and if the title track 'Mob Ties' is anything to go by, she is not pulling her punches.
