Modern Life Is War have been a fixture of the underground hardcore scene since forming in Marshalltown, Iowa, in 2002, and their melodic hardcore sound sits somewhere between raw punk aggression and genuine emotional weight. Their early records, My Love. My Way. and Witness, came out through Deathwish Inc., the label run by Converge's Jacob Bannon, and built them a devoted following before they called it quits in 2008. The reunion that followed in 2012 turned out to be anything but a cash grab: the band wrote Fever Hunting in a basement, had it produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou, and kept their touring commitments deliberately small. They have since reissued a remastered Witness and announced a fifth studio album, Life on the Moon, through Deathwish and Iodine Recordings. Influences range from Operation Ivy and Rancid to Billy Bragg and The Clash, which tells you plenty about their range.
