Mon Rovîa, the stage name of Janjay Lowe, is an Afro Appalachian singer songwriter whose sound has steadily grown from a hip hop, trap and R&B blend into something rooted in folk. Born in Monrovia, Liberia, he named himself after his birthplace and got his start uploading to SoundCloud in 2017. His 2021 album Dark Continent showed the range early on, but by 2022 tracks like "Vulture Culture" and "Where the Rivers Run" signaled a real lean into folk territory. From 2023 onward he released a four part EP series built around the structure of the hero's journey, capping it with Act 4: Atonement and the single "Winter Wash 24," which donated all proceeds to the International Rescue Committee. The project earned him a Spotify Juniper Artists to Watch spot and a debut at Bonnaroo in 2024. On TikTok he has racked up over 500 million views, and in July 2025 he made his Grand Ole Opry debut.
