Memphis rapper Moneybagg Yo built his name on a melodic blend of trap and Southern hip hop that landed him on the radar of Yo Gotti, who signed him to Collective Music Group in 2016. His commercial mixtape Federal 3X the following year cracked the top five of the Billboard 200 and announced him as a serious force in the game. From there he dropped four studio albums in quick succession, each one charting higher than the last. A Gangsta's Pain in 2021 finally put him at number one on the Billboard 200, and its single "Wockesha" climbed into the top 20 of the Hot 100. Along the way he picked up a Grammy nomination, four iHeartRadio Music Award nominations, and the "Trapper of the Year" nod from T.I. himself. Not bad for a guy who started releasing mixtapes out of South Memphis back in 2011.
