About
As the lead singer of Ukrainian electro folk band Go_A, Monokate (the solo alias of Kateryna Pavlenko) brought together traditional Slavic folk sounds with electronic production in a way that caught international attention. Go_A's song "Shum" represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2021, finishing fifth overall while landing second in the public vote, and even hit number one on the global Spotify Viral 50. Before that, their 2015 track "Vesnyanka" was a breakthrough in Ukraine, topping the 10Dance chart on Kiss FM radio and earning the station's discovery of the year title. Under the Monokate name, Pavlenko also puts out her own music. In 2023 she released "Vorozhyla", the soundtrack to the Ukrainian action drama Dovbush, a film she also appeared in as a Carpathian molfar. She is a trained folklorist with a deep connection to traditional vocal styles, and that comes through in everything she does, whether fronting Go_A or working solo.
