About
Moon Hooch built their name the hard way, playing saxophone and drums in New York City subway stations until the NYPD actually banned them from Bedford Avenue for causing too much dancing on the platform. That origin story tells you a lot about what they do: saxophone driven, percussion heavy, and built to move a crowd. The Brooklyn trio of saxophonists Wenzl McGowen and Michael Wilbur, plus drummer Cyzon Griffin, blend jazz with dance music in a way that earned them a spot in what fans call the brass house genre. Their self titled debut hit number 9 on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart in 2013, and the follow up This Is Cave Music climbed to number 5. From there the band kept pushing the sound further, adding synthesizers, post production and vocals along the way. They played a Tiny Desk Concert at NPR and released a steady string of albums through the years, most recently Yesterday's Problem in 2024 and a collaboration with Tonio Sagan in 2025.
