About
Mothersfonk is an eight piece funk band from Rotterdam that mixes funk with hip hop. Their sound sits on deep pocket grooves, cut through with tight breaks and sharp, showy solos. They keep things raw and stripped down, with no fuss and no frills, and they take their cue from the godfather of soul while giving funk a contemporary spin of their own. The members all built their chops separately in a wide range of bands and projects. Between them they have worked with names like Joseph Bowie of Defunkt, Shirma Rouse, Fred Wesley, the Jamal Thomas Band (the drummer of Maceo Parker), Focus, Living Blues Experience, Miko Weaver (a guitarist who played with Prince), a Nile Rodgers tribute band and Loïs Lane. That mix of backgrounds shows up in the chemistry on stage, where the groove rarely lets up and standing still is hard.
