Mud Morganfield carries one of the heaviest names in blues as the eldest son of Muddy Waters, and he has spent his career doing something genuinely tricky: honoring that legacy without disappearing into it. His voice shares the same tone and timbre as his father's, something he openly calls a double edged sword. He performs a mix of Muddy's classic material and his own original work, and he is clear that keeping his father's music alive around the world is something he takes personally. His discography stretches from Fall Waters Fall in 2008 through Son of a Seventh Son and the Blues Music Award winning For Pops: A Tribute to Muddy Waters, recorded with Kim Wilson, right up to Portrait on Delmark and Deep Mud on Nola Blue in 2025. Six albums in and still going, Mud Morganfield has made a convincing case that he is very much his own artist.
