Mudvayne built their reputation on sonic experimentation, elaborate face and body paint, and a relentlessly heavy sound that set them apart from the nu metal pack coming out of Peoria, Illinois. Their 2000 debut L.D. 50, executive produced by Slipknot's Shawn Crahan, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and gave the world the single "Dig", a track that still defines their legacy. Each record pushed in a slightly different direction: the follow up The End of All Things to Come was darker and moodier, earning a Gold certification, while Lost and Found leaned into complex guitar work and an eight minute opus called "Choices". After nearly a decade of releasing albums and touring hard, the band went on hiatus in 2010. They came back together in 2021 and kept performing live, and in August 2025 they released "Hurt People Hurt People", their first new song in sixteen years. Bassist Ryan Martinie, vocalist Chad Gray, drummer Matthew McDonough and guitarist Greg Tribbett make up the core lineup, with live rhythm guitarist Marcus Rafferty rounding things out on stage.
