Mummy the Peepshow are an all girl garage punk and noise punk band from Osaka, Japan, who have been rattling around since 1994. They put out four full length albums, toured the US at SXSW as part of Japan Nite in 2000, and even got a cheeky shoutout as an easter egg in the 2005 Xbox game Far Cry Instincts. Their records on the BENTEN Label and their own Triangle Records lean into scrappy, energetic punk with a playful edge, tracks ranging from sub one minute blasts to sprawling eight minute closers. They covered The Smiths on Electric Rollergirl, which tells you something about their range. After going on hiatus in 2003, founder and frontwoman Maki brought the band back in 2018 with a fresh lineup and picked up where they left off. One of their former bassists, Naru Ishizuka, went on to join the legendary Shonen Knife, which is a pretty good endorsement of the company they kept.
