About
Murali Coryell is a blues guitarist and singer who has opened for George Thorogood, Gregg Allman, B.B. King and Wilson Pickett. He's mostly a small venue guy, a regular presence on stages around New York State, and when he travels the States he skips the permanent backing band and plays with local session musicians instead. His sound sits closer to soul and blues than to the jazz fusion his father Larry Coryell was famous for. People compare his playing to Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana, and others hear the Memphis soul of labels like Hi and Stax. His second album, 2120, takes its name from the old Chess Records address in Chicago. The catalogue runs from Eyes Wide Open in 1995 through Restless Mind, Mr. Senator and Made in Texas, plus a record made with his father and brother Julian. In 2014 his Adventures Live DVD earned a Blues Music Award nomination.
