Muziekvereniging Excelsior Winterswijk

About

Excelsior is a wind orchestra from Winterswijk, a 70 piece ensemble conducted by Gerben Grooten. The programme they play is deliberately mixed, running from classical compositions to modern tunes people will recognise, so there is usually something for every taste in the hall. They like to build concerts around a theme rather than just playing a string of pieces. One of their projects looked back at the history of Winterswijk and its mayors, pairing the music with stories, anecdotes and images from the town's past. It shows a community orchestra that is firmly rooted in its own village and happy to turn a concert into an evening of storytelling as well as music.
