About
Mystic Braves started out as Blackfeet Braves, a Los Angeles psych rock outfit pulling from the Seeds, the Zombies, surf rock and garage rock to build a sound that feels like a sun soaked California summer filtered through a slightly warped record player. The name change came courtesy of a lawsuit from Rickey Medlocke, Lynyrd Skynyrd's former drummer, whose own band Blackfoot took issue with the name. After a brief detour as the Mystic Rabbits, they landed on Mystic Braves and kept rolling. Their 2014 album Desert Island on Lolipop Records broke them into international circles, earning them US and European tours and a reputation in the garage and psychedelic revival scenes. They've kept up a steady pace since, releasing Days of Yesteryear, The Great Unknown, and most recently Pacific Afterglow in 2022. Organ player Ignacio Gonzales, who co founded Lolipop Records, has been a key part of their sound since 2013.
