Nai Barghouti named herself after the ney, a Middle Eastern flute, and her music lives up to that connection. The Palestinian singer and songwriter, based in Amsterdam, blends traditional Arabic and Palestinian music with Western classical music and jazz into something genuinely her own. She calls her vocal style "naistrumenting": singing without words, heavily ornamented, drawing on both scat singing and Arabic vocal traditions. Her concerts mix original compositions with works by iconic Arab artists like Fairouz, Umm Kulthum, and Marcel Khalife. She has performed at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, the Royal Concertgebouw, and even before the United Nations. Big orchestras like the Metropole Orkest and Phion have shared stages with her, and she has collaborated with artists ranging from Fresku to Skrillex. In 2024 she topped the Official Lebanese Top 20 with "Li Fairuz", her take on Fairuz's "Li Beirut", and her debut album Nai 1 came out in 2022. She won the Young Talent Award of the Royal Concertgebouw in 2020.
