Nala Sinephro plays pedal harp and modular synthesiser in a way that makes those instruments feel like they were made for each other, weaving ambient jazz textures that sit somewhere between meditative and hypnotic. Her 2021 debut Space 1.8, released on Warp Records, landed on year end lists across the board, and her second album Endlessness followed in September 2024 to similar enthusiasm, with contributions from Morgan Simpson, Sheila Maurice Grey, and regular collaborator Nubya Garcia among others. Born in Belgium and based in London, Sinephro came up through the city's jazz scene alongside Shabaka Hutchings and Nubya Garcia, and cut her teeth performing with the improvisation collective Steam Down. In 2025 she stepped into film scoring, composing the music for the A24 sports drama The Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie and starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. It's a significant jump, and it suits her sound perfectly.
