About

Also known as: Ιωάννα Μούσχουρη, Νάνα Μούσχουρη, Νανά Μούσχουρη

With somewhere around 450 albums recorded in at least thirteen languages, Nana Mouskouri is one of the most prolific recording artists the world has ever seen. The Greek singer built her reputation on a voice that moves comfortably between husky alto depths and bright coloratura mezzo territory, paired with a signature look built around black rimmed glasses that made her instantly recognisable across Europe and beyond. Her breakthrough came with "The White Rose of Athens", which shifted over a million copies, and she followed that with a run of massive multilingual hits. "Je chante avec toi Liberté" from 1981 was recorded in at least five languages, and "Only Love", the theme from the TV series Mistral's Daughter, hit number two in the UK in 1986. She also represented Luxembourg at Eurovision in 1963 and recorded the theme for the Oscar nominated film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg through her friendship with composer Michel Legrand. Beyond music, she served as a UNICEF spokesperson and sat in the European Parliament from 1994 to 1999.
