Born out of a chance meeting at the Andanças Festival in Portugal in 2003, Naragonia is a Flemish folk duo that makes dancefloor friendly folk music with serious depth. Pascale Rubens handles diatonische accordion, violin and vocals, while Toon Van Mierlo brings an almost absurd range of instruments to the table: diatonische accordion, uilleann pipes in multiple keys, Flemish bagpipes, a Spanish gaita, Breton biniou, soprano saxophone, clarinet, bombarde and low whistles. The result is a sound rooted in European folk traditions but very much built for moving your feet. The duo are regulars at folk dance events and have built up a solid discography over the years, from their 2006 debut Tandem through to Silentski in 2020. When the lineup expands to include violinist Luc Pilartz and Maarten Decombel on mandola and guitar, they perform under the name Naragonia Quartet.
