About
Nathan Fake has been quietly one of electronic music's most consistently interesting figures since the mid 2000s, when his single "The Sky Was Pink" put Border Community on the map. James Holden's remix of that track took on a life of its own, spreading across dancefloors for years and ironically making it harder for Fake to get his own original sound heard. His debut album Drowning in a Sea of Love earned an 8.4 from Pitchfork and comparisons to Boards of Canada, setting a high bar he has kept chasing. Across seven studio albums and releases on Border Community, Ninja Tune, and his own Cambria Instruments label, Fake has never settled into one sound for long. His 2017 album Providence came out of a creative block he broke by picking up a monophonic Korg Prophecy synthesiser, forcing him to play everything live rather than program it. Blizzards followed in 2020, leaning into chunky breakbeats and garage drums, and Crystal Vision arrived in 2023. Most recently he put out Covers (From Memory), an EP recreating tracks by Slam, Orbital, and Industry Standard entirely from memory.
