About
Also known as: N-By-N, The New Style
Few groups can claim a catalog as stacked as Naughty By Nature's. The East Orange trio, made up of Treach, Vin Rock, and DJ Kay Gee, broke through in 1991 with "O.P.P.", a track built around a Jackson 5 sample that hit number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later named one of the top 100 rap singles of all time by The Source. Their fourth album, Poverty's Paradise, took home the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 1996, the first album ever to win that award, and "Hip Hop Hooray" off their third record came with a Spike Lee directed video packed with cameos from Queen Latifah, Eazy E, and Run DMC. The group has had its share of turbulence, from a financial fallout that caused Kay Gee to leave around 2000, to Vin Rock briefly being pushed out in 2013, but the three have consistently pulled back together. They also recorded "Here Comes The Money" for wrestler Shane McMahon, a track WWE still uses to this day. Their seventh album, Anthem Inc., arrived in 2011 featuring both new material and reworked versions of their classic hits.
