Necrophobic have been one of Sweden's most uncompromising metal acts since forming in Stockholm in 1989, named after a Slayer track off Reign in Blood. Their debut full length, The Nocturnal Silence, recorded at the legendary Sunlight Studio in 1993, set the tone: punishing blackened death metal with lyrics rooted in anti Christian themes and Viking mythology. The 1997 album Darkside even featured a guest spot from Jon Nödtveidt of Dissection, which tells you something about the company they kept. Over more than three decades they have put out ten studio albums, steadily refining a sound that sits at the crossroads of death metal and black metal. Death to All picked up Album of the Month on Metallian.com, and the band kept the momentum going with Dawn of the Damned in 2020. Their tenth record, In the Twilight Grey, arrived in early 2024, proof that founding drummer Joakim Sterner and the rest of the lineup have no interest in slowing down.
