About
Nederlied Ensemble spends its evenings reviving Dutch songs and the stories behind them. Their programmes Liedjes die niet mochten and Ik ben blij dat ik je niet vergeten ben filled halls and drew praise for both the playing and the content. The second programme got a part two, because there were simply too many great songs and big names left to remember. The repertoire leans on Dutch cabaret and chanson greats such as Toon Hermans, Annie M.G. Schmidt, Jacques Brel, Herman van Veen, Rob de Nijs, Paul van Vliet, Jasperina de Jong and Hans Dorrestijn. None of it is picked at random. Cabaret and theatre people like Brigitte Kaandorp, Herman Finkers, Claudia de Breij and Simone Kleinsma each brought in a song tied to a personal memory, and the ensemble members chose songs with stories of their own. The result moves you, makes you laugh and offers some comfort, and singing along, softly or at full volume, is welcome.
