Neptune have been at it since 1994, and after twelve years of quiet they came back with their ninth full length record, Play Some Music, released on Sleeping Giant Glossolalia. The album reunites the trio of Jason Sidney Sanford, Mark William Pearson, and Daniel Paul Boucher, whose earlier records Gong Lake (2008, Table of the Elements) and Patterns (2006, Les Potagers Natures) stand as landmarks in the band's catalogue of over thirty recordings. Though they've long called Boston home, the three members now live spread across Boulder, Tucson, and Durham. The band's sound is built around homemade instruments assembled from hardware store finds and landfill salvage: microtonal and macrotonal wire framed steel guitars, amplified circular saw blade percussion, electronics, and feedback organ. Play Some Music adds gamelan style amplified percussion and dense electronic textures to that already restless mix, with songs that move between composition and improvisation and circle around classical mythology and the blur of memory. The album was recorded by Jason LaFarge at Seizure's Palace and mastered by James Plotkin.
